Printable calendar Monday start, numbered with ISO 8601 weeks

The grid below starts each week on Monday and carries ISO week numbers down the left edge. That is the international convention and the one business reporting runs on — and it is not only a matter of taste, because moving the week start changes the shape of the sheet.

Who needs the week to start on Monday

Anyone working to ISO 8601, which defines Monday as day 1 of the week and is the basis of week numbering across most of Europe and in international standards generally. Anyone whose company reports by week number — a manufacturing schedule, a retail trading calendar, a project plan quoted in “W38” — needs the numbering and the numbering only makes sense against Monday-to-Sunday weeks. And anyone who simply thinks of the weekend as the end of the week rather than as bookends around it, which is most of the world outside the United States.

What actually changes on the page

Three things. First the columns rotate: the band reads Mon Tue Wed Thu Fri Sat Sun, so Saturday and Sunday sit together at the right-hand edge instead of being split across the two ends of the row. That single change makes a weekend legible as one block, which is the practical argument for the layout regardless of any standard.

Second, a narrow week-number column appears at the left, about two and a half percent of the sheet width, which the seven day columns give up between them. The numbers come from the ISO rule — a week belongs to the year containing its Thursday — rather than from counting sevens from January 1, which is the calculation most hand-rolled calendars get wrong exactly when it matters, at the year boundary.

Third, and least expected: the row count can change. The 1st of the month lands in a different column, so the last day can fall on the other side of the thirty-fifth cell. Among the months with a page here, January 2027 drops from 6 rows to 5 on a Monday start, while November 2026 goes the other way, from 5 to 6. A row is about a sixth of the writing height in every box, so this is worth checking before a long print run.

The exact-fit case

There is a fourth effect, rare enough that most calendars never account for it. A 28-day February that begins exactly on the week-start day fills four rows and borrows no cells at all from January or March. February 2027 does that on a Monday start: four whole weeks, four whole ISO weeks, nothing spilled. The printed sheet still uses five rows so the boxes match the months either side of it, and both numbers are stated on that month’s page. This is why “a month needs five or six rows” is a claim this site does not make: the honest answer is four, five or six.
