Weekly printable calendar with an hour-by-hour grid

Below is a week, not a month: seven day columns crossed with a rail of time slots, which is what you want when the thing you are scheduling has a start time. Pick any week, choose Sunday or Monday first, then print or download the PDF.

What a week sheet is for

Appointments, lessons, shifts, clinic rotas, study blocks, training plans — anything where “Tuesday” is not a precise enough answer. A monthly grid gives one box per day and no way to say that the box contains three things happening at 9, at 13:30 and at 18:00. A week sheet turns that day into a column you can read down, and the ordering does the work that handwriting cannot do inside a single cell.

It is also the layout people actually mark up. Because a week sheet is disposable by design — you print the next one in seven days — there is no reason to keep it tidy, so it takes crossings-out, arrows and margin notes in a way a month calendar on a wall does not.

The geometry, and how it differs from a month grid

The grid is eight columns wide, not seven: a narrow time rail on the left sized to its labels, then seven equal day columns. Down the page it runs from 7:00 to 21:00 in 60-minute steps, which is 14 slots, plus a header row of weekday names and dates and one untimed row under it for all-day items and holiday marks.

That changes the shape of every cell. On portrait Letter with a half-inch margin, 14 slots share roughly nine inches of height, so each hour is a little under three quarters of an inch — about half the height of a day box on a five-row month sheet — while the columns are the same width. Landscape is usually the better choice here: it gives each day column about a third more width, which is where a written appointment actually needs the room.

Starting the day at 7:00 rather than midnight is deliberate. A planner that begins at 00:00 spends a third of the page on hours nobody schedules into, and the hours you do use end up compressed. The trade is that anything before 7:00 or after 21:00 has to go in the untimed row or the margin.

Do not use a week sheet if any of these apply

• You want one print to last. Fifty-two sheets a year against twelve is a real cost in paper and ink. If most of what you record is all-day, print the monthly layout and save the other forty sheets.
• You need month context. A week sheet cannot show you that the deadline is nine days away or that the following Monday is a holiday. For planning across weeks, a month grid is not merely adequate, it is the right shape.
• Your schedule is mostly outside working hours. The default rail covers 7:00 to 21:00. Night shifts and early starts fall outside it, and stretching the rail to cover them squeezes the hours you actually use.
• You want to write a lot per entry. An hour slot is a line, not a paragraph. For long notes, the notes-column layout on a month sheet gives you a block of ruled space that a time grid has nowhere to put.

Week numbers, and which week this is

Turn on ISO 8601 week numbers and the sheet is labelled with the week’s own number, which is the standard way businesses across most of Europe refer to a week. The number comes from the ISO rule — a week belongs to the year containing its Thursday — rather than from counting sevens from January 1, which is the calculation most hand-rolled calendars get wrong at the year boundary. Pair it with the Monday-start layout, since ISO weeks are defined as Monday to Sunday and a Sunday-start sheet labelled with ISO numbers is quietly inconsistent.
